Market Recap

Too Much Hype for a Shutdown Fix?

Yet again, Wall Street traders drove most stocks higher and bond yields lower as House lawmakers were poised to end a historic government shutdown.

The resolution of the last four U.S. closures spurred gains in the S&P 500 and most of its sectors, based on the median performance.

While about 300 shares in the equity benchmark rose on Wednesday, a slide in big tech left the gauge wavering. The Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed for a fourth straight day, hitting all-time highs. Bitcoin erased its advance.

Oklo Inc. (OKLO) 6.7%

  • OKLO was up 6.7%, even though the nuclear start-up reported a wider-than-expected loss of 20 cents a share in its third quarter, compared with the loss of 13 cents analysts had anticipated.

  • On Tuesday, the company said it had made progress on its first nuclear-fuel fabrication plant and expanded its partnership with Idaho National Laboratory.
