Market Recap

Green September

At the start of September, everybody was divided between a green or a red September, as it is known to be one of the worst-performing months of the year. Even though it was a green September, it was not an easy month for investors.

A lot of things got worse in September. The government shutdown, U.S. job prospects dimmed, and the uncertainty of the Fed’s autonomy. Yet major indexes had one of their best runs. S&P 500, Nasdaq 100, and Dow Jones were up 3.5%, 5.6%, and 1.9%, respectively.

The next question is: Do we expect a Uptober (Green market in October)?

Ahead of the crucial earnings season, this presents a threat to the sustainability of the rally, especially with the S&P 500 running on 23x expected earnings, on par with dot-com levels. Adding to the problem is the government shutdown, which historically isn’t a healthy sign for the market
