Market Recap

Stocks Continue to Gain Momentum on Fed Countdown

Wall Street continued its optimism intact on a Fed rate cut despite a slide in jobless claims. The S&P 500 closed near 6,860.

The Russell 2000 added 0.8%. The yield on 10-year Treasuries rose four basis points to 4.10%. The dollar fluctuated. Bitcoin dropped below $93,000. Meta Platforms Inc. jumped as Bloomberg News reported executives are considering budget cuts for the metaverse group. Small caps hit fresh highs.

What's Ripe

UiPath Inc. (PATH) 24.4%

  • PATH surged 24% after the automation software maker beat Wall Street’s third-quarter earnings and revenue estimates, and guided for stronger-than-expected revenue for the current quarter.

  • The “solid execution” is a sign that UiPath is well-positioned for the rise in demand for AI at large organizations, William Blair analyst Jake Roberge wrote in a research note.

Dollar General Corp. (DG) 14.1%

  • DG climbed 14%. The budget retailer posted better-than-expected earnings in its third quarter and boosted its outlook for the fiscal year

  • Dollar General guided for fiscal-year comparable sales growth of between 2.5% and 2.7%, up from a previous range of 2.1% to 2.6% growth.

What's Rotten

PVH Corp. (PVH) 11.8%

  • PVH tumbled 12%. The owners of Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein forecast fourth-quarter earnings in the range of $3.20 to $3.35 a share, sharply below the $3.64 analysts had projected.

  • PVH said it expects revenue to increase slightly by up single digits, compared with analyst estimates of 3.7% growth.

Snowflake Inc. (SNOW) 11.4%

  • SNOW tumbled 11% as a third-quarter earnings beat was overshadowed by slowing product-revenue growth.

  • The stock may well have been priced for perfection—it was up 72% for the year as of Wednesday’s close, meaning there was a high bar to clear.

🌍 Region-Specific Networking Guides

The most common theme among students is this: networking is challenging and uncomfortable. That’s why we’re continuing to build on our region-specific networking playbooks to help them tailor their approach.

This quarter, we’ve added new regions: Singapore and the Middle East. We’ll continue releasing market-focused networking playbooks to help them tailor their outreach.

As a reminder, we now have a 4-hour intensive networking bootcamp that meets monthly. Make sure they sign up! Additionally, we cover networking during Sunday office hours. They can find the office hours links (for gcals and other cals) bookmarked in the #General channel in Slack and under Events on their WSO Academy Dashboard. Many of their questions can likely be answered through the Networking Mastery Course.
