Market Recap

Fed’s Reverberation to Asian markets

The Fed’s decision to pursue a 25 basis point cut had put equity benchmarks at all-time highs.

The S&P 500, Nasdaq 100, Dow Jones Industrial Average, and Russell 2000 indices have advanced to fresh highs. Asian equities have also advanced, with MSCI Asia rising 0.2% with gains in Japan and Australia. The MSCI index of global stocks also closed on record highs.

Talking about slowing inflation, Japan’s consumer inflation rose 2.7% from a year earlier, slowing from a 3.1% gain in the previous month.

Energy prices fell 3.3% slightly below the rate of the previous month and matched analyst expectations. The BOJ is set for a meeting on Friday, and it is expected to keep rates unchanged.

In the U.S., equities got a boost in Thursday trading after jobless claims dropped the most in nearly four years. Initial applications for jobless benefits in the U.S. dropped by 33,000 to 231,000 in the week ended Sept. 13, below the median estimate of 240,000.

This suggests that corporations are still holding onto their workforce. Robert Schein of Blanke Schein Wealth Management suggested that the Fed is cutting rates in a robust economy, leading to a huge runway for equities.
